Claudio Roditi: Impressions

The album Impressions was recorded on a Sunday afternoon during the Rio summer of 2006. Roditi was on vacation in Brazil and couldn’t resist gathering his friends in a studio to record the themes they frequently played during their sessions at Modern Sound.

Modern Sound was a record store in Copacabana that Claudio Roditi considered the best in the world. There, in addition to finding jazz records from all over the globe, one could find the entire collection of Brazilian music. But that’s not all—every afternoon, some of Rio de Janeiro’s finest musicians would perform on the small stage of the store’s bistro.

It was there that Claudio Roditi paired his trumpet with the sound of the quartet performing on that stage. This is the group featured on the Impressions album: Idriss Boudrioua on alto and soprano saxes; Dario Galante on piano; Sergio Barroso on bass; and Pascoal Meirelles on drums.

A significant portion of the album Impressions is dedicated to the work of the master John Coltrane.
