“Tom Jobim performed in America for the first time at the famous Carnegie Hall concert, which introduced Bossa Nova to the United States in 1962. That historic performance featured legends such as João Gilberto, Sérgio Mendes, Carlos Lyra, Luiz Bonfá, Roberto Menescal, and Agostinho dos Santos, to name just a few.

In the audience of nearly three thousand people were jazz icons such as Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, Gerry Mulligan, Tony Bennett, and Cannonball Adderley, among others.

From that point on, Tom Jobim began to gain recognition, initially among American musicians. However, it was the global success of ‘The Girl from Ipanema’, featuring Astrud Gilberto, that brought the maestro international fame in 1964.

In 1965, he recorded the album A Certain Mr. Jobim, his first record in the United States. Featuring arrangements and the orchestra of Nelson Riddle—Frank Sinatra’s own conductor—the album includes this beautiful version of ‘Dindi’, composed by Jobim and Aluísio de Oliveira, with English lyrics by Ray Gilbert.”
